Carin's yarn

Before the holidays my friend Carin asked me to overdye some yarn for her. I said sure and she gave me 1400 yards of a beautiful 50/50 wool alpaca dk weight and some green and blue dye. I looked at her Raverly page to see what shade of blue/green she already had so I could give her something different from what she has already knit but she would love. You can see what she thinks of it of her webcast Round the Twist. She in turn gave me this:
Socks That Rock lightweight colorway Mustang Sally. I so love it! Below is the other yarn I got from The Loopy Ewe. Lornas Laces sport Amy's Vintage Office. I just knit myself a pair of socks this color so I this may be MiL socks. not sure yet as I love it so much.

Bunky's new hat

You may recall that I knit Bunky a new scarf this spring. Well here is a hat to match. Made up the pattern as I went along. Sorry to say I knit this so long ago I am not sure what I did. Yarn is BunkyBobo's Worsted in the Bad Pantsuit colorway.

Jimi!

3 colorways for SS'09 inspired by Jimi Hendricks. Hey Joe(red and black), Purple Haze and Voodoo Child. These will not be in the shop, you can only get them at SS. I love Voodoo Child. It came out just like I saw it in my head. Very cool.

A few other notes:
Michael Jackson. Yes he died too soon and it is very tragic but wall to wall news coverage is just out of control. Did we have this much coverage for the Pope or Mother Tressa? Crazy. MJ's was a Rock and Roll legend anyway but his death gives him automatic legend status. See I have a theory about Rock legends. You can earn your legend status with great music or you can win it by the manner of your death. If a rocker died from something drug related (Jimi, Janice, Elvis) they are a legend. If they die in a fiery crash of a plane of some kind (Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughn) Legend. If a rocker is murdered (John Lennon) legend.

I hope you all have a great 4th of July today. We have gloomy skies this morning, but Hubby and I both have the day off. We hope to grill out tonight and spend some time just hanging out with the kiddos.

New Colorways

Booby Trap
Did you ever see the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Well in the movie Jessica Rabbit has a booby trap that comes out of her dress. If you have never seen this movie you are missing out. Pretty funny.
Black and Tan
I have a vague memory of my Moms brother drinking black and tans when I was a kid. A black and tan (as I recall) is Guinness with a pale ale on top. Served in a pint glass. To be honest is sounds kind of gross to me but I am not a beer drinker. I do like the color though.

Merino Roving

Dew Kissed Grass

Sweet Tarts

Punk
4oz merino rovings for the shop. I want to reshoot the pictures. I have 2 more still drying. Black and Tan and Ranger. Drop me a comment if you want one before I list them.
In other news: The kids brought me breakfast in bed today. An untoasted English muffin with butter and a glass of milk. They were very cute about it. Bunky does not have school today. I hope the sun comes out so we can go to the park. Seems like a good way to spend my birthday.

This and That

I have sewn up the Log Cabin squares and picked up stitches for the boarder. I really like the way it looks. I may try to make another someday for me. Need to work on a good way to knit the squares together as I go.

I dyed up some worsted I had intended to knit into a shawl. I'm not sure I like the color. I am thinking I may knit the shawl and then overdye it. I will show you when its dry.

Monkey Boy has a black eye. We have no idea what he did to get this black eye. Seems like he woke up with it the other day. He seems to think its no big deal.

At the park the other day one of the girls called Bunky fat. This child then told her I must be 400 lbs. Bunky was more mad that someone made fun of me than she was about the fat comment. For the record Bunky has gotten two inches taller this year but not gained weight. I think she is fine. Seems this is the age when girls start picking at each other. So far Bunky has let most of it just float by her. She is a sweet and thoughtful kid. I hope they are not too hard on her.

I am very excited to report that Mom and Dad will be joining us for the Rocky Mountain Adventure this summer! MIL and LtCOL are happy to let my folks use the condo but Mom and Dad didn't want to go without us. The kids are planing all the things they want to show their Grandparents, LtCOL has an extra fishing pole for Dad, and I am planing the menu. The nice thing about the condo is we can cook most of our meals. The kids are looking forward to the pool and killer playgrounds. The trip will also give me a chance to knit with Mom.

I have a huge amount of new yarns and rovings to post. I hope to get the pictures today and have them listed very soon.

A new Supreme Court Justice. It should be no surprise I think a woman would be a good idea. I have been reading up on some of the names being floated about. I will be very interested to see who is chosen. I have a feeling this will not be the only opening Obama has to fill.

Amercian Idol. We think Adam is going to win. Unless they vote him out this week like Chris Doughtry.

Update

Yikes a whole week and no post. Sorry. I have been busy keeping the house clean and trying not to chew my fingernails off. We are feeling the budget squeeze here pretty tight. Too tight to really keep up and its taking its toll on me. I have mostly kept our money woes off the blog because of the feeling I can't shake. If I had just kept my job... But Dammit what I am doing now is so important for my kids. and I will have more time for work when MB starts school in the fall. We just have to hold on for a little while longer. I hope we can. I think we can and then curve ball. My washing machine is not working. There is something wrong with the spin cycle. Hubby has tried and says he can not fix it, I will have to call a repair man. The budget says not this week. I see a trip to the laundry mat in my future. Grr. I hate the laundry mat. Oh well there good knitting time to be had there. I hope it can be fixed, I fear for my fingernails if it can not.

Because there is always knitting even in bad times: I have finished the big orange thing I have been knitting for Bunky's teacher. We have no sun here so pictures will have to wait. I am back to work on the rmnt log cabin blanket. I want to have it finished before we head to the condo in june. Should be no problem. I need 3 more squares.

In shop news I got some merino roving the other day. It is wonderfully soft and takes dye like a dream. When the sun decides to return I will get some pictures.
I have also got me June PhatFiber samples done and all the supplies for july lined up. July will be a non wool box. I dye all wool and wool blends so I am sending Jessie a big batch of lip balm for july. The feedback on the lipbalm has been great. I am glad people like it.
I think I see the sun poking out, now where did I put the camera?

More socks

The Ides of March

I always try to start planing Spring projects around the Ides of March. 5 Days to spring, it always seems to be the day I start to see the end of winter. The kids were out in the yarn today. They came in covered in mud. Toph has torn up the grass in a large part of our backyard. She loves to dig. Man its going to be a long spring of muddy paw prints around here.

In shop news: Monday I am going to put all the old yarns in the shop on sale. I post a link when I'm done with the listings.

In knitting news: I did in fact start a sock. Just a plain sock. I am done with the gusset. So I guess my no sock phase is over. Good thing too. My Wollmeise knee socks have a new hole in them and I need a new pair. Now that I can take the kids to the park with out turning into a Popsicle there will be lots of sitting in the sunshine knitting socks. I hope the city fixes the bench. The pack of teenage boys is now 14-15 and they like destroying things at our little park. Their parents don't really seem to care. I will have to keep a close eye on the kids this summer.

BoboSocks

Here is the other new base yarn I told you about. 75% superwash merino 25% nylon. I love this yarn for socks. It is still nice and soft but wears really well. I named it after Monkey Boy who is hard on his socks. This is the Punk Rock colorway. I love it. Looks so pretty re-skeined like this.
This is a new colorway. I think it will be The Eye. Fiery reds, golds and oranges. Kettle dyed.
I will be running a sale next week. More on that Monday.
As for life here at the Funhouse. Monkey Boy and I are working on writing our letters and getting ready for school. I have to wonder if things will go as smoothly for him as they did for Bunky. We will be going to Kindergarten Round Up in 2 weeks. They take the kids to the classroom and the parents are kept in the gym. I wonder how many weepers there will be this time. (I am talking about the Moms here. lol) When I took Bunky one woman sobbed loudly the whole time. Bunky did not get a spot at the focus school. We are bummed but I kind of thought this would be the outcome. With so few slots and so many students. You know kids, she has already moved on.

I'm calling this one Maybe Next Year. If my Cubbies play post season the ivy will be lovely shades of reddish brown. A girl can dream can't she?

More Knitting!

Here is Bunky's new scarf. She helped me dye these skeins. BunkyBobo's Worsted Wool Colorway: Bad Pantsuit. The pattern is the One Row Handspun Scarf by the Yarn Harlot. Fun to knit and I think it shows the colorway nicley.

I have not touched my sock knitting in weeks. Not sure why really. I have plenty of new colorways I could knit up and tons of patterns to choose from. Must be a phase.

Tubey

Here is the Tubey sweater. I like it. It fits pretty well. I think a light blocking is in order. I made the xs size but added a bit of length to the body and left out the bell sleeve. If I ever knit another one I think I would do the ribbing on the sleeves as well.

Most of the new colors are up in the shop. The rest will go up today.

More colors! Now seen from space!

Punk Rock so named by BunkyGirl. I love this one.

Summer Lovin' I am pretty sure you could see this one from space.

Lemon Lime Snow Cone. "It looks like a snow cone" says BunkyGirl
"So it does" says I

It's not easy being green. From the softest mint to the deepest emerald.

New and returning colorways

Grand Lake. Grand Lake , CO is where the Lt Col was born. I happen to think it is one of the most beautiful places in the Rocky Mountain West. The water looks so clean and blue there. By the way Mom, we will take you there this summer. There is a cute little shopping area with wood plank sidewalks and some really good restaurants.

Elderberry Wine. One of my first memories of the theatre was going to see My beloved uncle Joe play Teddy in Arsenic and Old Lace. To this day it is a favorite of mine. There is a great movie version of this with Cary Grant. Whatever you do don't Let Abby and Martha serve you any Elderberry Wine. I was in this show once myself. I played the dead body Teddy takes out of the window seat and carries to the basement as well as the dead body Johathan and Dr Einstein shove through the window and into the window seat while I was at the Notnthern Lights Playhouse in the summer of '94. I listed myself in the playbill as Alex Owen.

Bad Pantsuit.
In the summer before my freshmen year of college I did summer stock theatre. One of the shows was an Irving Berlin Musical Review. I am not an actor but everyone had to be in this so. Anyway to make it worse I had to wear a one piece pantsuit in the above colors. It made me look like a short may pole. My self and 4 other girls dressed the same did The Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night. A little dance number with big umbrellas with suns on them. You can stop laughing at me now.

I will be putting these and 2 more in the shop this weekend. There will be a chance for you to win 2 skeins of BunkyBobo's worsted very soon. I picked up some more dye pans yesterday. This should speed things up a bit. Remember if you see a color you like on a base yarn you don't just let me know. I can repeat these.

In a side note, Watching Congress has become my new favorite reality tv show. Some of the conflict seem so silly to me I have to laugh. You can't make this stuff up. How will it end? Will anything get better? Can we vote people off? Now wouldn't that be a fun way to have elections? Can't you just see Seacrest standing on stage with Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.
" well guys you're in the bottom two tonight, one of you is going home..." I bet more people would vote...
