Me time

With the MK's and Hubby gone most of the weekend I have had a bit of me time on my hands. I managed to finish a sock and start the 2nd, make 50 pots of lip balm and watch 3 movies. The family is due back this afternoon. I enjoy the Me time but after a day or so I start to wonder what to do with myself. Winston seems to be out of sorts with the kids gone. He spent most of yesterday on MG's bed wondering where she was. Poor guy.

I feel the need to say something about John McCain's choice of VP. You will remember I was/am a Hillary person. I wanted to vote for her because of her policy not her gender. I find it insulting that the GOP pundits think that HRC voters will vote for them because of this woman. Palins policy views could not be further from HRC's. She is pro life, pro gun, pro drilling, and thinks we should teach creationism in schools rather than science. I can not see how any of these facts would draw HRC voters. Come on GOP. Do you think I am that dumb? Do you think I will vote for one of my own gender just because we are both women? Yes I want to see a woman in the white house but not just any woman. The right woman.

I want my little girl to grow up knowing that she can be anything she wants and will be treated the same as any man. I feel that we have a chance to make a better America for our children. Obama and Biden will fight for us. For health care, for education, for green energy, for American jobs and for Peace. I really feel Obama has a chance to restore Americas place in the world. I want to live in the America Obama talked about last week in Denver. I want to run screaming from the America McCain offers. He won't even promise to take care of the Veterans who serve our country bravely and without question. If McCain won't even take care of his own comrades in arms who will he fight for? Big oil and the rich? Sorry Mr McCain, not good enough. Not even close.

Sometimes thats how it is

Hubby's Grandma passed away yesterday. I had only met her a few times but she was a kind and sweet lady. We are not sure Hubby will make it to Indiana for the services. We just have too many bills to pay right now to spend $200.00 extra on gas.
I would not be able to go anyway because I had my first daycare client start this morning. Before and after school 2-3 days a week. The kids are great. 3rd grade girl and a boy in kindergarten. We will see how this evening goes but so far so good. Now I just need 1 or 2 full time kids and we might just get our bills paid after all. I am hoping getting the first will get the ball rolling.

I am also putting in time at Miss Violets trying to get the yarn skeined so we can dye this weekend. It is a huge order. Should be fun. I am also working on a new column for the chum. Should be up soon.

I hope to have my own line ready for the end of September, very excited about it.

Thats is for today. Maybe knitting tommrow...

More socks

So here is my new "on the go" sock. 2x6 ribbing on the leg, it will have a plain foot. The yarn is from another indie dyer, Dyeabolical Yarns. I love her stuff. This colorway is called Frogs in a Blender. I love how the color knits up, no pooling at all just nice stripes. This one is ready for a heel. Speaking of which, I showed GAL how to turn a heel this past weekend. I had knit one sock for her a while back so she will have a pair soon.

I have been doing a bit of research for the new line of yarns I am going to do up for the L&V shop. I am going for 12 repeatable colorways and some one offs. There will also be Christmas yarns for The Etsy shop too. Now I just need to sell a few more of the skeins in the shop so I can load up on the base yarn. I have left the sale prices on the Guide yarns. I won't be dyeing these colorways again so if you like 'em get 'em now. The LOTR colors are up as well. Remember free shipping on orders of $50.00 or more.

A little bit of cool news

Just wanted to share some news. Sometime later this fall I am going to dye a line of yarns for sale in the Lime&Violet shop! Miss V and I talked about it last night. I am pretty excited. Research will start today. I have not picked my theme yet, but I have some ideas. These will all be repeatable colorways. Its gonna be great!

Look a pretty picture

You know I don't have knitting photos when you see a pretty shot from the Rockies.

When my Aunt was here we went to the lys and got 3 skeins of Malabrigo worsted that I'm making a poncho out of. So far very pretty and soft. Should be nice. I have been busy with MB the last few days but tomorrow I am going to list a bunch of new stuff in the shop. Great stuff.

Oh and by the way, I'm going to work for Lime&Violet. MissV asked me to help with the dyeing (as there is a ton of it now) and other stuff. I get to help Adminnie too. Should be fun. MB will come with sometimes. He went out there with me today and was pretty good. He had big fun playing with the dogs and they seemed to like him. Should be very cool.

2nd Grade

Here is my big girl all ready for 2nd grade. In the past I have gone into the school with her the first day but she did not want that this year. Ouch! She had a good day. A lot of her friends from last year are in her class. I can't believe that a year from now I will have to take MB for his first day of school. I can't even think about it!

A Very Monster Girl Poncho

Don't you love this on her? MG doesn't like sweaters much. This poncho seem like the perfect fit. The pattern is by The Yarn Harlot and can be found on her blog under A Very Harlot Poncho. I got the yarn in swap and I really like it. it is ArtYarns Ultra Merino I don't remember the colorway number. Soft pinks and greens it suits MG well I think. She told me 'No fringe Mom" so no fringe it is. I was worried about curling but blocking seems to have taken care of that. The yarn is very soft and nice to work with. I like the pattern too. I may have to knit myself one of these for the winter.

Sale!

Sale is up. Go now!

Stuff

Here is a shot from the shores of Lake Granby from our last trip to the Rockies. I just love this picture.

Anyway, I am mostly gift knitting right now and can not post pictures of most of what is otn. I am knitting a new poncho for MG for school. She has gotten a bit taller this year. I have seen a lot of knit ponchos in the kid ads this year. Funny how some things just keep coming back. Pictures of that soon. I hope to finish it during the women's gymnastic team event tonight.

Speaking of the Olympics. Have you been watching? Did you see the opening? Lighting design has come a loooong way. That 500' LED floor screen was unreal. I know a bit about how that stuff is made and how it is controlled. The lighting on the whole was fantastic. What drew me to theatrical lighting was the fact that I can paint with light. I can create a time and place from nothing. I have been playing with this idea in my yarns lately.

Which brings me to the shop. I am going to put all the Hitchhikers Guide colorways on sale for 15% off starting tomorrow morning. I am going to edit all the prices today to make it easy on myself. I will post a link when the sale starts. Also new any order of $50.00 gets free shipping.

And now my time is up. I need to get the kids out for a bit.

More color from books

I had so much fun with the Hitchhikers Guide colors that I went back to my bookshelf to look for colorway names. I was reading The Fellowship Of The Ring at the time and decided to draw from that. I read the trilogy taking notes when something struck me. I did not go back and watch the movies because i did not want someone else interpretation to color my own. You saw the first yesterday. You will see these in the shop this weekend.

Black

I love playing with black dyes. I never get the same results twice. Here you see another semi solid black. This time no red or blue cast just black and a bit of grayish tan. Very nice. This one is called The Nine. Can you guess what I have been reading? I dyed these up to knit a shawl but I think I will list them in the shop. There will be a shop update this weekend with new colors for fall and winter. I have 5 colorways ready to go and a few more to dye up. I am just about out of base yarn so these will be all the new colors for a few weeks. Stay tuned for more new colorways including another blackish one.

Did I tell you...

Hubby got the seating done in the basement and set up the sound system and projector. We can watch movies on the big screen now! There is some trim work to be done and posters to hang but the big stuff is done.

Now if I can get him to hang the shelves in the kids rooms...

Anyway GAL is coming in 2 1/2 weeks! Yay! Wait till you see Toph GAL she is huge now. And remind me to show you Mom's Christmas gift. I finished it the other day and I am rather pleased with it. I did in fact make my holiday knitting list yesterday and I am in pretty good shape. Plus I have most of the yarn I need in stash already.

Well this is a disjointed post... there is yarn winding and picture taking to be done so...later!

Tuesday

Wow August already? what happened to summer? 3 weeks from now MG starts 2nd grade. She is growing up fast.

In knitting news. Mom's Christmas gift is done and blocking as we speak. Now on to Dad's socks. I think heavy house socks are the way to go. Dad is pretty set in his ways and I think he will just wear them around the house. So I am going to try some slipper patterns and see what happens. I have some leather to make soles with.

I have some silk fabric in my stash of stuffed saved from the costume shop. I think I am going to try to dye it today. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Malabrigo

I knit this up the other day when I was feeling the need to finish something. This pattern is called The Birthday Cowl. I found it on Ravelry. Yarn is Malabrigo worsted. I think the color is Oceans. (something like that). Soft and warm, it will be keeping someone warn this winter.

In other news I joined a few of the Knit night gals yesterday at Miss Violets to dye the Loopy Ewe order. We had a great time and you will love Miss V's new line. Very cool.

GAL is coming to visit in a few weeks! Yeah. She and Future will be here for MG's first day of school. I'm gonna help her turn her first heel.

speaking of socks, I had to rip back Dads sock. It was far to big even for man feet. A size smaller dpn's should solve the problem. However I was not lovin the pattern with the yarn. The pattern really needs a solid color yarn. oh well live and learn. Off to look for good men's sock patterns.
