New and returning colorways

Grand Lake. Grand Lake , CO is where the Lt Col was born. I happen to think it is one of the most beautiful places in the Rocky Mountain West. The water looks so clean and blue there. By the way Mom, we will take you there this summer. There is a cute little shopping area with wood plank sidewalks and some really good restaurants.

Elderberry Wine. One of my first memories of the theatre was going to see My beloved uncle Joe play Teddy in Arsenic and Old Lace. To this day it is a favorite of mine. There is a great movie version of this with Cary Grant. Whatever you do don't Let Abby and Martha serve you any Elderberry Wine. I was in this show once myself. I played the dead body Teddy takes out of the window seat and carries to the basement as well as the dead body Johathan and Dr Einstein shove through the window and into the window seat while I was at the Notnthern Lights Playhouse in the summer of '94. I listed myself in the playbill as Alex Owen.

Bad Pantsuit.
In the summer before my freshmen year of college I did summer stock theatre. One of the shows was an Irving Berlin Musical Review. I am not an actor but everyone had to be in this so. Anyway to make it worse I had to wear a one piece pantsuit in the above colors. It made me look like a short may pole. My self and 4 other girls dressed the same did The Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night. A little dance number with big umbrellas with suns on them. You can stop laughing at me now.

I will be putting these and 2 more in the shop this weekend. There will be a chance for you to win 2 skeins of BunkyBobo's worsted very soon. I picked up some more dye pans yesterday. This should speed things up a bit. Remember if you see a color you like on a base yarn you don't just let me know. I can repeat these.

In a side note, Watching Congress has become my new favorite reality tv show. Some of the conflict seem so silly to me I have to laugh. You can't make this stuff up. How will it end? Will anything get better? Can we vote people off? Now wouldn't that be a fun way to have elections? Can't you just see Seacrest standing on stage with Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.
" well guys you're in the bottom two tonight, one of you is going home..." I bet more people would vote...

Quadrillion

A quadrillion comes after a trillion. I wonder when the Goverment will start using that number. Yikes.

Anyway on to the yarn shall we? Above is the new and improved St Crispins Day colorway on the new BunkyToes base yarn. 3-ply superwash merino wool 425+ yards. I love the new base yarn. It is soft and squishy. I will have 5 new colorways in the shop this weekend. Including Grand Lake, and Elderberry Wine. Very excited. I have been playing with colors you don't see me use often. Monkey Boy is helping too. He likes to put the yarn in to soak. He is good about not tangling it up. Both kids are a big help with BunkyBobo's. It is so much fun to do this with them. Bunky is in charge of getting the lip balm ready to go in the package while Bobo and I get the yarn tagged and bagged. They are both growing up so fast. I am so happy I have this time with them.

Update

In knitting news: I have finished the back/sleeve part of my Tubey and knit about an inch of the body last night. So far so good. I have not touched my other projects in a day or 2. Maybe I will knit on some socks this week.

In BunkyBobo's news: I am dyeing yarn like crazy around here. I want to have plenty in my shop when the next PhatFiber box comes out. There will be new colorways and restock of some colors. Bunky and I are going to make new lip balms for spring this weekend so you can look for new flavors in your orders very soon.

In other news. Mom and Dad got Hubby a Home Depot gift card for christmas. We went last night and got paint for the family room. Goodbye yellow! Bobo wants to help me paint. I have a bad feeling about this.

In the world around us: Anyone else wondering what comes after a trillion?

The new yarn is here!

I got 2 new base yarns for socks the other day. My test skeins are still drying.
Bunky Toes is 100% superwash merino 3-ply and BoboSocks is 75% superwash merino 25% nylon. Both are soft and squishy. Very excited. More on this later.
I have to take both dogs to the vet for their checkup and shots this morning. I am starting to think I was a little nuts to agree to bring them in at the same time. Toph has not taken to the lead very well. Wish me luck.

New yarn and stuff

These 2 skeins were dyed in the same pot at the same time and they came out so different. I love kettle dyeing. You dump everything in the pot and see what you get. So fun. It does make it hard to get skeins that come out the same but that is half the fun. I have 2 more colors drying right now and my sock yarn should be here very soon.
I will be sending stuff to PhatFiber again for the march box. If you have not gotten in on the PhatFiber thing you should really click the link. We are having a great time over there and people really love their boxes. I am very excited to be a little part of this group of artist. Bunky helped me get all the lip balms in their little bags with the cards and such. She love to help with the shop whenever she can. I let her pick a new flavor for BunkyGirl Lip Balm. Root Beer Float anyone? We will be making those for summer.
I seem to have castonits I cast on for a sweater. Tubey from Knitty. I started this sweater before but frogged it because I didn't really like the black yarn I was using. This time I am using Patons Classic Merino from Michael's. I like this yarn. Sturdy and soft enough for a fitted sweater. I knit the back and 6" of sleeve last night while catching up with the dvr.
Idol? Meh... maybe it will get better?
Hubby and I watched the New HBO Doc Right America: Feeling Wronged. The filmmaker is Nancy Pelosi's daughter,Alexandra. People really say anything to someone with a camera. I wonder if any of them regret it now.
Also Heroes, getting very interesting. no spoilers from me.
And Bill Mahr is back tonight. Good sleeve knitting tv.
So what are you watching?

square

I have still not decided what to knit with the lace weight. Shells suggested a nice shawl which led me to another by the same designer which led me to another. So I decided to wait. If I get the RMLCB done I may take it on vacation. Speaking of the RMLCB I have 1/2 of the squares I need finished. I also have about 25 squares knit for my sock scrap blanket. The good news is I can knit these squares in my sleep now.
I fixed a hole in one of my socks yesterday. It looks bad but it works. This is a skill I need to master. I also started a 2 row striped scarf for the gift pile. I really like the way the 1x1 rib looks. I am trying to learn to rib a little faster. I knit pretty slow to begin with but ribbing really slows me down. I figure when this scarf is done I should be up to speed with the ribbing.
I am off to take some pictures of yarn and the scrap blanket.

I told you he was a monkey

I told you he was a monkey boy! He saw someone doing this is ICarly.com and before I knew it he was climbing the walls. He is fearless. We are working on our letters and numbers and reading lots of books. JP is a busy little Monkey.

In knitting news. I just can't seem to get excited about anything I'm working on right now. Even my socks are boring me to death. I think I am going to look for a really simple lace shawl. Something that does not have me glued to a chart. I have a really lovely lace weight in the stash to use for it I just need to pick a pattern. I have seen these really pretty garter st shawls with a little ruffle all over blogland but that is just more garter st. Got any suggestions?

In shop news I am working on a big base yarn order. More worsted is already on the way. I will get more sock yarn for sure. Superwash Merino and wool/nylon blend. Should I get some lace weight too? Do you guys want lace weight?

Also one more thing. Watch this space for upcoming news. I am planing BunkyBobo's first yarn and fiber club. The sign ups will be in early march with club shipments going out the last week of April,May and June. If it goes well there will be a round 2 in September, October and November. I am calling it Science Fiction Double Feature Fiber Club. Each shipment will have 2 colorways as well as other fun swag and as always BunkyGirl Lip Balm. Stay tuned for more details.

Miranda for PhatFiber

Here is the yarn I dyed up for PhatFiber. You can get some here. I wanted something really one of a kind that I could not repeat even by chance so I started with a base yarn that was a stone colored heather. I am really proud of these skeins. It was hard to send them off to Jessie. I really hope I get to see what someone makes out of it. I would love to see it knit up.

I just want to thank Jessie from PhatFiber for the challenge. She sent me a Waterhouse painting and I ended up choosing another painting by this artist. Miranda is one of Shakespeare's Heroins from The Tempest. I happen to love this play. It is full of interesting people and creatures and magic. It is also a play that Hubby and I did together in college. We took the show to festival, good times. This was a fun project. I am thinking about some more of this kind of over dye. What do you think?

In a Rut

I was knitting along on blanket squares the other day and found myself bored to death with everything I am knitting. Just blah about the whole thing but knitting on anyway. I think I will do a little stash diving today and see if I can find something to keep me interested.

We have had 2 afternoons in a row of 50 degree weather. MB and I have been playing outside and now I have a cold. Not too bad just enough to have to blow my nose a million times a day and make me feel again blah.

I have been paying attention to Congress and the rescue/bailout/spend crazy amounts of money thing is really driving me nuts. We all remember the election. We know who won and who lost. I hate this party line fighting that seem to be going on right now. The GOP with help from my own party messed things up pretty bad and Congress seem more interested in bickering. Do they know that they are making things worse every day?

In brighter news: There is a chance that Hubby and I will get to do a show together. It won't be until summer 2010 but it is a show we haw been wanting to do for a while now. I can't saw what show just yet but trust me it will be killer! We are waiting for approval from the board of the theatre. I will say there will be lots of really fun stuff with this one. I can not wait. I love to figure out how to stage things or build a really strange prop and I will have a lot of that kind of thing with this one.

Updates

Not much new knitting to report. I have started a new pair of socks and the blanket knitting continues.

In other news: I have sent in an application for Bunky to go to the new focus school here in town. The program sounds great. Her school year will be longer (Aug 4-June 24) and her school day will be longer. She wants to go if we can get her a spot. The student/teacher ratio is 20:1 and the computer ratio is 1:1. The theme of the focus school program is Leadership through Technology. I think she would do really well in this type of program. She is outgoing and smart and pretty tech savvy already. We will find out in early March if she gets in. The program will take her through High School. If she gets a spot we would be able to get Monkey Boy in to when he reaches 3rd grade. Fingers crossed.
